Art of first kiss: The ‘triangle method’

21:34, February 7

The first kiss is a defining moment in the development of future relationships. If your knees are weak and butterflies are floating in your stomach, then the kiss was a success.

So how to achieve this effect? The “triangle method,” which users believe guarantees a “perfect” first kiss, is trending on TikTok. They say this is the best way to kiss without saying anything at all.

What is the “triangle method?”

Besides the ability to remain calm—easier said than done!, the “triangle method” is easy to perform.

Necessary:

Make eye contact with the person

Slowly move contact from the left eye...

On the right eye...

Then to the lips...

 And repeat.

There is some debate about whether you should use eye-lips-other-eye or eye-eye-lips, but ultimately it doesn't matter. Just go slow, don't rush!

Where did the “triangle method” originate?

It is difficult to say who exactly invented the “triangle method.” The strategy, sometimes called the “triangle view” or “triangle technique,” has been circulating on the internet for more than a decade. But given the evidence of its existence in movies from the 1920s, it clearly existed long before that. It may have started out as a visual technique used by directors wanting to convey rising tension between characters, or perhaps it has been around since the beginning of time as a proven way to show that you want to kiss. Regardless of its origins, it is definitely not new.

The sudden boom in popularity of the “triangle method” can be traced to one place: TikTok. In 2022, Valeria Romero posted a video claiming that the “triangle technique” would make anyone "obsess over you," and she recently used it with great success. Her viral video has since received over 10 million views. Others have since posted videos explaining this technique, talking about how it worked for them, and showing how it has been used in pop culture.

Does the “triangle method” work?

Well, some on TikTok are 100 percent sure it does. Psychology Today notes that this method is "more of a gimmick than a game changer" since dating success has always been about being yourself.
